FALL RESIDENTIAL CLEAN-UP WEEK

October 21 through October 24 has been designated as
Jefferson Spring RESIDENTIAL Clean-up Week.

Have items curbside by 6:00 a.m. on your regular garbage pickup day.

Different crews collect different types of refuse. Please help them by sorting your items and placing them in separate, manageable groups curbside on your regular garbage day.

IF PILES ARE NOT SEPARATED, THEY WILL NOT BE PICKED UP UNTIL SEPARATED.

The following guidelines will assist the crews in making this an efficient process. Please sort items into six (6) groups:

1. YARDWASTE–NO STICKERS NEEDED ON YARDWASTE BAGS DURING CLEAN-UP WEEK ONLY.
(a) Yard waste, including natural refuse such as grass, leaves, clippings, and small twigs need to be placed in 30 GALLON BIODEGRADABLE PAPER BAGS available at many Jefferson retail stores, or bundle twigs with twine (no wire) into 2’x2’x4’ maximum size bundles. DO NOT USE GARBAGE CANS for yard waste. Yard waste in containers other than required paper bags will be left curbside.

2. TREE TRIMMINGS/BRUSH—CHIPPING SPECIFICATIONS–NO CHARGE
(a) With our chipper, limbs may be left in any length, the longer the better, but not over 10 inches in diameter. Tree trimmings need to be neatly stacked and spread out in arm load piles, curbside, with cut ends facing the road for ease in feeding the chipper and for safety reasons. Chipping is for trimmings of trees. WHOLE TREES WILL NOT BE PICKED UP.

3. APPLIANCES, ELECTRONIC WASTE & METAL–SPECIAL CHARGES WILL APPLY:
(a) Refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, air conditioning units and all other items containing freon will have a charge of $40.00 each. All other appliances $25.00 each.
(b) Current electronic waste charges will be applied.
(c) Metal must be bent or cut into lengths not exceeding 5 feet.—No charge

4. FURNITURE, CARPET, PADDING, WINDOWS–SPECIAL CHARGES WILL APPLY
In order to address rising fuel and landfill costs, the City will limit the amount of trash picked up at a property to an amount equal to 2 loads (hoppers) of material placed in the back of a garbage truck and crushed. Amounts beyond 2 hoppers will cost $25 per hopper and will be billed to the occupant of the property. Scrap metal and yard waste are separate items and are not counted towards the limits.

5. LUMBER, CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS INCLUDING DECK, FENCES AND REMODELING DEBRIS–SPECIAL CHARGES WILL APPLY
(a) Lumber cut in lengths not exceeding 5 foot length and tied in bundles of 50 lbs. each or less.
(b) Fencing must be rolled up in bundles of 50 lbs. or less.
(c) Construction and remodeling debris
Amounts beyond 2 hoppers will cost $25 per hopper and will be billed to the occupant of the property. Scrap metal and yard waste are separate items and are not counted towards the limits.

6. REGULAR GARBAGE–Amounts beyond 2 hoppers will cost $25 per hopper and will be billed to the occupant of the property. Scrap metal and yard waste are separate items and are not counted towards the limits.

REMINDER: MATERIALS MUST BE SEPARATED – METAL WITH METAL, WOOD WITH WOOD, GARBAGE WITH GARBAGE, YARDWASTE WITH YARDWASTE, ETC. IF THIS IS NOT DONE, MATERIALS WILL BE LEFT.

Applicable charges will be added to the customer’s water bill.

City personnel are prohibited by State Law from collecting tires, waste oil, lead acid batteries and toxic items.

Residents may burn yard waste and trees as an alternative to having the City pick them up. Burning is permitted from 7:00 AM and shall be completely extinguished by 9:00 PM. Fires MUST be attended and courtesy to neighbors is strongly encouraged. CITY CODE PROHIBITS BURNING ON CITY STREETS AND ALLEYS.
